Girls to the Rescue Story: Sowmya Rajendran Full disclosure: I have a soft spot in my reading list for books featuring fractured fairy tales. I love complaining about the princesses in fairy tales for being generally useless and spectacularly boring. Which is exactly why I love this book where the princesses do exactly what I've been wanting them to do. They take control of their own lives and manage to be interesting people I could actually imagine being friends with. The book features six popular fairy tales, but with heroines who make decisions modern girls will (or should) recognise. It'll help if the reader is already familiar with the original tales which are turned upside-down by the author. Recommended age: 8+ - Parinita |

The Auto That Flew Story: Ken Spillman Full disclosure: I have a soft spot for all Ken Spillman's books and how he captivates with his simple, delightful stories. This story is about Arjun the green and yellow auto, his autowalla Sirishji and a passenger who go on an extraordinary journey! I love that this adventure is full of drama and surprises. And the end is profound and simply magical! Ajanta's illustrations are quirky and fun and complement the story beautifully. This picture book is for children who are ready to read on their own! But then I believe that good picture books are simply perennial and can be enjoyed by all! - Sangeeta |
